Why Braces?

There are many reasons for orthodontic treatment:

Crossbite: Top teeth are inside of the bottom teeth.

Verticle Problem (deep): The top teeth overlap the bottom teeth too much. Sometimes the lower teeth are completely hidden behind the upper teeth.

Verticle Problem (open): The top teeth do not touch the bottom teeth.

Habits: Thumb or lip sucking and tongue thrust.

Space Maintenance: If a baby tooth is lost too soon, the space needs to be maintained so that there is room for the permanent tooth to erupt.

Anterior/posterior Problems (Class II): The upper teeth are too far forward or the lower teeth are too far back.

Anterior/posterior Problems (Class III): The upper teeth are too far back or the lower teeth are too far forward.

Missing teeth: Teeth that cannot grow into the mouth or that never formed.

Crowding: Teeth do not have enough room to be in their normal position.

Should you have braces?

You might only have one or two of the reasons listed to the left.

In that case, your treatment could take only 6 to 12 months.
