Caring for a Temporary Crown or Bridge
Your temporary crown/bridge will serve you for a short period of time until the final crown/bridge is made by the laboratory. A few comments about this temporary will be helpful to you.
- Brushing: Brush and floss your teeth as normal but do not floss the temporary crown/bridge - it will come off.
- The temporary cement requires about one-half hour to set. Please do not chew on it during that period of time.
- Temporary crowns/bridges are not strong. They may break or come off occasionally. If so, call us and we will replace them. If you are where you cannot contact us, go to a pharmacy and get some temporary cement. Clean out the temporary crown/bridge of remaining cement. Following the directions on the box, replace the temporary until you can see us. Please do not leave the temporary out of your mouth, because the teeth will move and the final crown/bridge will not fit.
- DO NOT USE superglue to cement the temporary.
- Certain foods will stick to the temporary crown/bridge. This will not happen with the final crown/bridge.
- Color: The color of the temporary crown/bridge does not resemble the color of the final crown/bridge.
- Shape, Size: The shape and size of the temporary crown/bridge does not resemble the final crown/bridge.
- Tooth Sensitivity: Temporary crowns/bridges may leak saliva or food into the tooth. Sensitivity to cold, hot, or sweet is not uncommon. This sensitivity will not be present with your final crown/bridge.
